Northern Thai Performances



Hi everyone

  As I am Chiang mai people, I would like to share one kind of Ancient cultural heritage of Lanna Kingdom which are Northern Thai dance or " Forn ". 




                                             Fingernail dances  or Forn Leb       
                                                               
 Leb is fingernail. In the past, Forn leb is shown to welcome the important guest of the kingdom. Dancer will put the long golden metal  fingernails. This performance was trained in Royal northern manor. 


                                            Silk making dance or Forn Sao Mai 
     Forn Sao Mi dance is showing the process of making silk which is the main career of Ancient Lanna woman. 

                                                    Umbrella dance or Forn Jhong 
        Borsang village at Sankampheang, Chiang Mai is very well-known of handicraft umbrella product.Beautiful women with umbrella riding the bicycle was the charming picture of Lanna kingdom in the past. This dance will make the ancient charming alive again.

                                                                           AKHA dance 
                   
       Aka is the hill tribe which has biggest population in northern region. This dance will show how to gather the tea leaves and how happy when Aka people work together.

                                            King-ka-la dance or Forn King ka la 
                       
      King ka la is half-bird half human creature lived in Himaphan forest. It descended from heaven to respect Lord Buddha but unfortunately it was caught by Hunter "Phran Boon".



                                              Victory drum or Sabudchai Drum
                                                     
           Chai in Thai word means Victory Sabuchai drum was used to declare the victory after the war in the ancient. The drummers are all men representing the warriors of the Lanna Kingdom.  (Drummer in the clip, he was my highschool classmate)
